Hall Cupboard – Cluttered to smart and organised!

Hall Cupboard_BeforeBefore

This entrance hall cupboard was not giving the best first impression with overflowing shelves.

After sorting through the contents and adding two extra shelves, items are to hand and can be accessed easily when heading out the door!

Library – Room to relax and read!

Library_BeforeBefore

This family had a lot of books and music but the room had become cluttered with other things that clearly didn’t belong in the room. The beautiful wooden floors could hardly be seen.

So much more space even though not many books were removed! Surplus items were removed and everything kept was re-organised so that now there is space to relax and read or play guitar!

Family Room – Room to work, rest and play!

Family Room_BeforeBefore

Boys being boys had used this room as a dumping ground. It was definitely not the chill out zone and home study area the owners wanted.

After

We added a bookcase to store extra books and baskets separate out schoolwork from sports equipment and games.  Moving the table closer to the window makes homework more pleasant and now there is room to relax and watch TV and play games too!

Playroom – Overflowing, no room to play!

Playroom_BeforeBefore

When we arrived you couldn’t see the floor! The room couldn’t be cleaned, children couldn’t find things and there was definitely no room to play.

Playroom_AfterAfter

Broken toys were discarded, outgrown toys passed on for others to enjoy. We got rid of some surplus storage boxes and used the remaining storage to group similar items and play-sets.  Most importantly, we then labeled everything so now it’s easy for the children to find things and put everything away themselves!

Playroom – Not very child friendly!

Playroom II_BeforeBefore

Toys and books were not easily accessible and had been abandoned everywhere leaving the parents frustrated and the children very little room to play!

After

We sorted the toys, discarding broken items and those no longer used or outgrown then organised them into new labelled storage boxes so that the children could quickly and easily find and put things away themselves.

Some toys were left on higher shelves so that they could be rotated – children enjoy fewer toys and don’t get bored! Much of the floor space was cleared for play and extra cupboard space came from removing household and clothing items to other appropriate rooms.

Playroom II_After_1The toy chest became both a table and storage for larger bulky toys, bookcases arranged at a more suitable lower height and the desk freed up for creative play.

Laundry Room – Cleaned up!

Laundry_beforeBefore

The laundry had become a dumping ground and there was certainly no worktop free to sort and fold laundry.

Laundry_AfterAfter

Anything that belonged to other areas of the house were moved and the remaining items logically grouped and stored away neatly in the existing cupboards.  With the worktops free the laundry is now a breeze to do!

Laundry Storage – Household essentials now at hand!

Store Cupboard Laundry_BeforeBefore

Clutter made it impossible to easily use the back door or access the tumble dryer in the bottom of the cupboard.  The rest of the contents of the cupboard had before a mix of confusion like the tangled cables.

Doorway cleared and now you can easily find garden and household tools.  Time save means the family can grab the picnic hamper easily and go out and enjoy themselves!

Storage – Same unit, different use!

Storage unit _Before as officeBefore

This open storage unit was a cluttered confusion of paperwork and a dumping ground for old computer equipment.

The room had a change of use as a bedroom.  We utilised the same storage unit as it was in good order, and with a bit of creativity, the addition of hanging rails and some boxes, turned it into a designer open plan bedroom wardrobe with plenty of room for clothing, books and display.

Walk In Wardrobe – What do I have to wear?

Walk In Wardobe_BeforeBefore

Like many women the owner of this wardrobe was hanging onto clothes that no longer fitted and other items that clearly did not belong.

Walk In Wardrobe_After2After

After a fun session of trying things on, we removed clothing that was simply too big or no longer worn or liked and sent it to the op shop.  A couple of items were identified to be sent for repair and alteration as they were simply too good to be thrown out.  Some new hangers and shoe boxes were purchased and the clothing reorganised so that it is now easy to find something to wear (and it fits!).

Walk In Wardrobe Drawers – Room to dress!

Wardrobe Drawers_BeforeBefore

Clothing from other family members had created havoc in this wardrobe.

Wardrobe Drawers_AfterAfter

We separated out the clothing to appropriate wardrobes and used the existing drawers to separate out like items.  In this case we used the top to bottom approach, meaning we put items that you would put on first or on your top half in the top drawers and worked down towards socks in the bottom drawer! Now it’s easy to find things and there is room to sort things away or get out ready for the next day.

Girl’s Bedroom – Room to grow and play!

Young girls bedroom_BeforeBefore

Every surface was covered and not easy for it’s young owner to find or put away things. The drawers and wardrobe contained a mix of clothing of various sizes causing them to overflow.

Young girls Bedroom_AfterAfter

Existing storage was used to better effect with things needed on a daily basis easiest to reach.  We reoriented the furniture and added a desk so the room has a slightly more grown up feel but left plenty of room to play. Outgrown clothes were passed on and clothes to be grown into separated out and stored in boxes placed on top of the wardrobe.

Girl’s Bookcase – Now I can read!

Child Bookcase_BeforeBefore

This bookcase was suffering under the strain of too many books!

Child Bookcase_AfterAfter

We sorted through the contents into appropriate age range and passed on others to younger sister and the toy library.  With room to breathe there is now space to display precious items too.
